A statement released by Waqf activists demanded that all Waqf properties being managed by private trusts should be taken over by the Telangana State Waqf Board (TSWB) in order to curb illegal activities and encroachments.
The activists called on Waqf officials to take appropriate action against the managing trustees and other members of private trusts to rectify and restore the original institutions that are creating unauthorised institutions out of the main Waqf institution.
The issue has come to the fore after the Central Waqf Board recently directed State Waqf Board officials to take immediate action against illegal conversion of a Waqf institution in the city into a trust. The notice was sent to State Waqf board in June this year after receiving a representation in April.
The applicant alleged that Habeeb Alladin, who claims to be the managing trustee of the Waqf institution Macca Madina Waqf building and attached properties at Pathar Gatti, has been creating new unauthorised waqf institutions out of the main waqf institution by changing the memorandum of the original waqf.
“While the current Waqf authorities are working towards improving the redressal system, bring transparency and efficiency in the Board, we request them to also make sure that the trusts are taken into direct control of Waqf Board,” said Mohammed Habeebuddin, a Waqf activist.
